Why Should Your Brand be on TikTok?

Updated: Oct 4, 2021

Over the past year, TikTok has taken the world by storm. Millions of people are spending more and more of their screen time consuming TikTok’s signature catchy, short-form video content. An article by Business of Apps estimates that TikTok logged between 850 million and 987 million downloads in just 2020 alone. We at PMG launched our TikTok in the beginning of April, and wanted to share some of our early findings.

In the beginning, TikTok’s rise was fueled by catchy dance routines, pranks, and challenges. Emily Lucas, an experienced digital marketer, wrote an article discussing the benefits of brands using TikTok back in early 2020; stating that “TikTok strikes a stark contrast to Twitter, which can be full of news and negativity, and YouTube and Facebook, which have been under scrutiny for misinformation and data collection.” Let’s take a look at how brands can effectively use TikTok to their advantage.

Not Just For Dancing Anymore

Before you ask… No. We don’t want to see your CEO doing some viral dancing trend. Brands on TikTok masterfully walk the fine line between humor and professionalism, sparking both interest and awareness about their company in the process. The first step in your brand’s TikTok strategy is to figure out what kind of content you’re going to be posting.

Luckily for you, the social media gurus at Hootsuite put together a blog post featuring a list of creative TikTok ideas that will help any brand get on the right track to going viral. Here are some of our favorites from the list:

Educate your audience about your industry

  • Getting educational is the easiest way to both gain traction on TikTok while also humanizing your brand for a younger, wider audience.

Partner with influencers/thought leaders

  • Influencers are king on TikTok. Positioning your brand alongside thought leaders will bring more viewers to your content and build brand trust.

Celebrate special occasions

  • Every holiday, no matter how big or small, is an opportunity to create engagement and relate to your followers.

PMG’s Favorite Video Production TikTok Accounts

It’s no surprise that the video production field is taking to TikTok faster than others. Below you’ll find a hand-picked list of our favorite video production TikTok accounts ranging from a prop master gone viral to a professional film director.

@ScottPropandRoll: Prop Master

  • Scott’s followers get a behind the scenes look at all the genius movie props he uses at work everyday. Scott shows off his impressive collection of silent and breakaway props he uses on the set of Hollywood movies.

@ErinMcGoff: Film Director/Career Coach

  • Erin is an accomplished director and editor who shares inspiring career tips and advice for young creatives aspiring to break into the video industry.

@JessicaHnsn: Videographer/Photographer

Conclusion

To wrap everything up, TikTok isn’t just for kids and teenagers anymore. Businesses looking to improve branding on TikTok have much different strategies when using TikTok compared to individuals and influencers operating as themselves. TikTok is projected to continue growing in the future, so the time to get started is NOW!
